    • The German and the US secondary education systems also differ in various respects, e.g. the US system has a far stronger private sector than the German system and also recognises forms of school selection other than the one in the Germany system, such as school vouchers. Nevertheless, systemically, in both systems the sub-national level (the states in the US and the Länder in Germany) is in charge of education. However, both systems have also institutionalised coordinating bodies for national education policies. M.
