Daniel Bell, who paid great attention to Lederer and his work in his own study on the ‘Postindustrial Society’ (1973), regarded him as inventor of the semantic term of the ‘new middleclass’ (neuer Mittelstand). This has doubtlessly to be regarded as incorrect since this term improves to be used several times before Lederer did (see e.g. Böttger, 1901).
