23. This paper analyzed curve correction in 32 patients with curves greater than 75 degrees. The authors found that there was an appropriate correction of the unfused lumbar curve. Junctional kyphosis was avoided if the correction did not exceed 50% or if the fusion did not reach the first lordotic level.
24. This classic article describes the long-term follow-up of 67 patients with Scheuermann's kyphosis who were followed for an average of 32 years compared to a control group. The patients with Scheuermann's kyphosis had more intense back pain, jobs that require less activity, and less range of motion of extension of their trunk.
25. This article describes the operative results of patients with Scheuermann's kyphosis, correlating it with improved SRS scores. In this series, patients whose hardware was removed experienced a loss of the correction even after radiologic examination of the fusion was completed.
