Initially, the List was updated sporadically but always prior to the year of the Olympic Games but from 1998, the IOC List was updated each January. WADA became involved in 2001 and a second List was published jointly with the IOC in September 2001 and was valid until January 2003. WADA assumed full responsibility for the "List" in 2003 and publishes the next year's list by 30 September prior to it becoming valid on 1 January.
