The French edition of the (Amsterdam) had a vignette at the beginning of the first chapter that showed a philosopher in his study who was looking at a child who was watching himself in a mirror and trying to touch himself. The philosopher laughs. But a line from Horace reverses the subject of ridicule: "Quid rides? . . . fabula de te Narratur" ["Who are you laughing at? ... the story is about you"]
