This paper demonstrates that operant perceptual conditioning is impaired in patients with fibromyalgia, while impairments in both enhanced perceptual sensitization and habituation depend on the presence of comorbid irritable bowel syndrome.

This study compared female patients with fibromyalgia and healthy controls, and found a heterogeneous impairment of cognitive functions, suggesting that visuospatial memory abilities may be more impaired than verbal memory in patients with fibromyalgia.

Female patients treated with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy reported superior improvement of fibromyalgia and improved depression and anxiety symptoms, along with increased activations in the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex and the lateral orbitofrontal cortex, regions associated with executive cognitive control. This suggests that cognitive-behavioral therapy may change the way pain is processed in the brain.
