The current author strongly favours Abed's notion of genocide (including the 'genocidal forcible transfer of children') as 'social death' (which may or may not also be accompanied by physical death). The 'social death' of the transferred children is reflected in the fact that their place in their families and home communities is ostensibly forever lost as, to use Abed's terminology, the genocide victims (here the child victims of genocidal forcible transfer) can no longer connect to the culture and social ethos of their original socio-cultural group/home community. This is the case in that the perpetrator group seeks and succeeds in destroying the children's original personal and cultural identity and remakes the children's self-perception and the community's perception of the transferred children into one of 'perpetrator' who holds mass violence as his/or her primary social ethic (they become thus 'children of the enemy' of civilized society). On the analysis here, however, the protected group as such harmed by genocide and experiencing 'social death' includes children as a group in and of themselves and not just the children's social/cultural/ethnic group of origin as a group 'as such' which is decimated psychologically and culturally, that is, by the loss of their young generation in whole or in part (the child group as a protected group as such is an age-defined group whose child members amongst themselves share no agreed upon social structure or social ethos). The current author thus endorses, in that respect, a more expansive definition of 'protected group' than does Abed (see Mohammed Abed, 'Clarifying the Concept of Genocide', Metaphilosophy, 37, nos 3-4 (2006): 308-30).

The current author would however maintain, as does the International Committee of the Red Cross, that any use of children (persons under 18) in hostilities as child soldiers is an inhumane practice.

The current author endorses the view of Damien Short that 'cultural genocide' describes a method of genocide and that it can be carried out in whole or in part (amongst other methods) via the removal of children from the distinct cultural group such as occurred in regards the 'Stolen Generations' of indigenous Australian children appropriated by Australian colonialists. As a result of this 'genocidal forcible transfer' of children from the group, the reproductive capacity and cultural vitality of the group of origin is reduced. The children transferred to the perpetrator group often suffer a 'disconnect' with their cultural roots to some greater or lesser extent though arguably colonialists have generally been unable to squash indigenous culture entirely in the long-term despite decimating various indigenous groups globally at various historical points and in contemporary times as well (see Damien Short, 'Australia: A Continuing Genocide?', Journal of Genocide Research 12, nos 1-2 (2010): 45-68). The current author, however, does not view the 'genocidal forcible transfer of children' as simply and exclusively reducible to the physical and/or cultural destruction of the children's ethnic or cultural group or group of origin however defined. Rather, the 'genocidal forcible transfer of children' is here also viewed as an attack on the child group in and of itself; a protected group as such, whose members have an inherent human right to their family and group of origin however defined; in cultural or other terms and to their personal identity (in part selfshaped).
