They demonstrated less pain in the hemiarthroplasty group, accounting for a significant improvement in quality of life, without a difference in range of motion.

This study is one of the few randomized controlled trials comparing surgical fixation with conservative management for displaced proximal humerus fractures in the elderly. They found evidence of improved radiographic outcomes in the surgically treated group, but not improved functional outcomes.
