    • Note that in a real ESR spectrometer, the FID signal would in fact be difficult to detect using this protocol because of ringing of the cavity and of the detectors dead time. The spin absorption spectrum would therefore rather be measured by CW-ESR than by this FID-detected protocol. We nevertheless discuss it for pedagogical reasons, because it is closest to our qubit-detected ESR experiment in which these technical issues are irrelevant.
