Charles Thompson Rees Wilson, 1879-1959. Studied in Manchester and Cambridge. 1895, J. Clerk Maxwell student award. 1900, Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, and University Lecturer and Demonstrator. Until 1918 in charge of the advanced teaching of practical physics at the Cavendish Laboratory, and also gave lectures on light. For his invention of the cloud chamber, Wilson shared the 1927 Nobel Prize for Physics with Arthur Holly Compton. Wilson is also credited with the discovery of cosmic rays, that is, speeding atomic nuclei from outer space that enter Earth's atmosphere
