-
The development of the UNCRPD had the largest global contingency of civil society actors of all UN treaties developed. The institutional arm of the disability rights movement, representing a diversity of global voices, actively lobbied and engaged within the treaty-making process itself. -
While there are numerous ILO conventions that have included disability as part of their focus, such as ILO C159 Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Disabled Persons) Convention (1983), the focus on disability has rapidly increased since the adoption of the UNCPRD in December 2006 by the UN General Assembly. For example.

see one of the central global reports on disability and employment sponsored by the ILO, Equality atWork: Tackling the Challenges-Global Report under the Follow-up to the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, Report of the Director General, Geneva: ILO, 2007. Within the World Bank a raft of disability development programmes has been revised since the UN General Assemblys adoption of the UNCPRD. While some of these programs are directly aimed at disabled people per se, with the World Banks primary focus on mainstreaming, a diverse range of programmes is increasingly required to include a disability component.
