    • For experimental reasons, gelation was performed at RT in this case. It was ensured, however, that for the gelatin concentrations chosen, this temperature was still below the maximum gelation temperature (cf. S. M. Tosh and A. G. Marangoni: Appl. Phys. Lett. 84 (2004) 4242). Due to the exponential dependence of the process of gelation on temperature, slight differences in the ultimate degree of cross-linking as compared to the samples gelated at 3 °C cannot be avoided, thus causing minor differences also in the respective refractive indices.
