These findings confirm that phenylephrine is usually superior to ephedrine in restoring maternal hemodynamic stability during spinal anaesthesia.

This publication, using a suprasternal Doppler technique, demonstrates an increase in CO after preload with both crystalloid and colloid, but no between-group difference in the incidence of hypotension.

This informative case series shows the continuous haemodynamic changes in 24 pregnant women with cardiac disease during caesarean section, using beat-tobeat monitoring of CO.

This study compares the effects of three different phenylephrine infusions on CO using a suprasternal Doppler technique, demonstrating that a high infusion rate of phenylephrine reduces hypotension, but has a negative effect on CO.

However, the higher infusion rates are associated with a higher incidence of bradycardia and hypertension.
