    • Cross sectional TEM specimens were prepared as follows: AAO containing SNTs was glued on a silicon wafer with epoxy resin and sliced into ∼400 μm thick sections with a diamond wire saw. The sections were ground and polished to a thickness of ∼80 μm, upturned, dimple-ground, and further polished to a thickness less than 15 μm and thinned to electron-transparency by ion milling from both sides with Ar (PIPS, Gatan). EELS and EDX measurements were carried out on a Philips CM 20 FEG field emission electron microscope (TEM/STEM) equipped with Gatan imaging filter (GIF 200) and an EDX detector (IDFix-system, SAMx, Germany). For the quantification of EEL-spectra, GATAN Digital Micrograph Software was used
