The phases were separated and dispensed into glass vials from which 20 μl of each phase was taken for radiometric assay using High Purity Germanium (HPGe) detector based gamma spectrometry system. The results are reported as distribution ratio and are calculated as the radioactivity in the organic phase divided by that in aqueous phase. Each experiment was done in duplicate and the results agree to within 5%. For inactive experiments palladium estimation was done using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry and distribution ratio was calculated by dividing palladium concentration in organic phase to that in aqueous phase.
