Migration in an interconnected world: New directions for action
-
Global Commission on International Migration (GCIM)
-
From 1980 to now, there has also been an increase in the overall global population of humans. Taking this into account allows us to understand that international migration has remained more stable than the sheer numbers would indicate. Nonetheless, it is important to note that a large proportion of the world's people continue to see migration as an important part of their life strategies. Unlike in 1980, however, their ability to secure rights following migration has become severely restricted. See the Global Commission on International Migration (GCIM), "Migration in an Interconnected World: New Directions for Action," Report (2005):1; 5-6.
