Role of central nervous system aldosterone synthase and mineralocorticoid receptors in salt-induced hypertension in Dahl salt-sensitive rats
-
10.1152/ajprenal.90656.2008 1:CAS:528:DC%2BD1MXkvVygur8%3D This is the first study using the aldosterone synthase inhibitor FAD286 in the CNS to assess possible local production of aldosterone. Indeed, the blocker prevents both the increase in hypothalamic aldosterone and sympathetic hyperactivity and hypertension in Dahl salt-sensitive rats on high salt intake.

Central neuronal activation and pressor responses induced by circulating ANG II: Role of the brain aldosterone-"ouabain" pathway
-
10.1152/ajpcell.00562.2009 1:CAS:528:DC%2BC3cXhtVOhu7vJ This study assessed changes in neuronal activity in the CNS, BP, and central and peripheral aldosterone and corticosterone content in response to subcutaneous infusion of Ang II. This study showed that Ang II causes neuronal activation of the SFO, SON, and PVN and showed that increased angiotensinergic output from the SFO projecting to the hypothalamic nuclei may activate a central aldosterone-"ouabain" neuromodulatory pathway contributing to progressive sympathoexcitation and hypertension.
