    • This recent paper describes a device devoted to investigations of exocytosis through epifluorescence and amperometry. Use of nontransparent platinum electrodes induces amperometric detection at the bottom of the cell while fluorescent measurements are achieved at the top. Attempts to combine both detections enforced the authors to reposition the studied cell on a side that is neither physiologically relevant nor suitable for routine analysis.

    • note
    • 50 % of the events are only TIRFM signals (vesicular serotonin concentration too low to be electrochemically detected) and 20 % are solely amperometric spikes (too fast events to be detected by comparison with the camera resolution).
