    • Note
    • Descriptions provided by companies and patents of laser devices used in practical surgery do not mention the state of polarization of the light. In addition, we should take into account that these devices often include homogenizers for intensity distribution that would contribute to the depolarization of the light. In any case, if the laser beam at the output is partially polarized, the adjustment factor we deduce slightly deviates. The contribution to this factor of equations that consider the nonnormal incidence of the laser would not be affected by the polarization of the light. In any case, the adjustment factor we deduce would improve the ablation equations on considering novel, real physical aspects, as mentioned above: reflection losses and nonnormal incidence of the laser.
