Extended valganciclovir prophylaxis to prevent cytomegalovirus after lung transplantation
-
This was a prospective multicenter randomized trial to evaluate extended CMV prophylaxis in lung transplant patients at risk for CMV infection. The study showed a significant decrease in the incidence of CMV disease in patients who received 12 months of oral valganciclovir versus 3 months. There was not found to be an increase in ganciclovir resistance conferred by the UL-97 mutation in the extended prophylaxis group nor were there significant reports of medication intolerance or toxicity
