This study compared outcomes of 62 patients in whom the antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta was made with the outcomes of 37 patients in whom the diagnosis was made intraoperatively. The strength of this study is that the 62 patients were approached in the same way with cesarean hysterectomies and, therefore, pathologic diagnosis was available in all. Blood loss was less in the preoperative group, but still high enough to show that prenatal diagnosis is not a 'cure-all'.
