Spring, Wulfemeyer defined the use of an anonymous source as "attributing a direct or paraphrased quote to an unnamed individu al or to an unnamed plural persons." Ibid., p. 83. His Time and Newsweek data, therefore, cannot be compared directly with Culbertson 's because they used different definitions of anonymous sources
