Using the cohort of young German women who had received contaminated immunoglobulin, the authors of this study were able to evaluate the IL-28B polymorphism in acute infection. The analysis is particularly important because it was able to study host genetics in a single-source outbreak at the time of infection where ethnic background and viral sequence diversity are minimal.
