    • A scenario where Kondo breakdown occurs can be deliberately induced by an energy scale that corresponds to the zero-point fluctuation of the f spins. In our Hamiltonian, a Heisenberg interaction term between the f spins would generate this scale. As one increases the f spin fluctuation, one can anticipate that in the presence of frustration the f spins form a valence-bond solid or a spin-liquid phase. Thereby, they decouple from the conduction electrons and drop out of the Luttinger volume count (Refs.).
