    • For the largest volumes the drops already slide at zero voltage. To achieve well-defined initial conditions for these drops, we use a hold-and-release mechanism based on EW: At the toof the samples, a small stripe of the ITO electrodes on both substrates is separated from the rest of the electrode using photolithography. Applying a high ac voltage to these stripes makes the surfaces locally more wetting and thus provides a holding force. Upon deactivating the stripe electrodes, the drois released and slides, depending on the voltage applied to the main electrodes
