If the finite size of the magnet is taken into account, the coupling constant κ is reduced by a factor ~2. The strong coupling regime can still be achieved by increasing the number of atoms in the trap center.

For a large BEC with strong collisional interactions, there will be inhomogeneous broadening present, hence all atoms will not necessarily precess with a single Larmor frequency. The result is a reduction of the effective number of resonantly coupled atoms. This practical hindrance can be overcome by controlling the collisions in the gas by means of adjusting the scattering length using techniques like Feshbach resonances, or using a lower density of atoms.

Such high Q values have so far only been achieved with doubly clamped prestressed resonators [3]. We note that our analysis could equally well be applied to a setup where two such resonators interact via a BEC.
