While alternate labels for a system for the assessment of the ongoing competency of physicians have been discussed from time to time at various FSMB committees, the terms "maintenance of licensure" and "MOL" have endured as a colloquialism and initialism, respectively, among physicians, medical regulators and others in the United States.
