Beyond Containers
-
note
-
Ascribes the phrase "the territorial trap" to Peter Taylor, 'Beyond Containers', Progress in Human Geography 19 (1995) pp. 1-15. I hereby claim exclusive right to the phrase "spatial fix" even though, as far as I know, Harvey first coined it! David Newman also hints at some association between my article and the various articles by Peter Taylor around 1994-1995 on "states as containers." Obviously there is some overlap, but his purpose was entirely to distinguish the concept of state from that of nation and interstate from trans-state processes in relation to globalisation rather than to explore how state and territory had become bonded together in International Relations theory and in political practice.
