23. 2O: A hot solution of nickel(II) chloride hexahydrate (0.12 g, 0.5 mmol) in boiling methanol (20 mL) was added to a boiling solution of NSSN (0.26 g, 0.75 mmol) in acetonitrile (100 mL). The resultant mixture was heated on a water bath for ca. 5 min and then left to stand overnight. A green product formed which was filtered off by gravity filtration, washed with cold ethanol and dried in air (0.14 g, 38%). The mother liquor was left to stand for one month when crystals suitable for X-ray analysis were obtained.
