20. The weakened AF configuration with increasing the chain length can be associated with the decrease in the energy difference Δ E DB between the lowest unoccupied and the highest occupied DB states: we obtain Δ E DB = 1.00 [see Fig.], 0.75, and 0.61 eV for CC-3, CC-5, and CC-7, respectively.
21. The ground state of even-numbered chains has S z = 0. This is consistent with the DFT results that the ground state of even-numbered chains is nonmagnetic.
