A methanol solution (5 ml) of 1,10-phenanthroline (1 mmol, 198.2 mg) was added dropwise and stirred for 4 h. The precipitate was dissolved in dichloromethane/ methanol(10 ml, 1:1) solution. A green needle crystal of 1 suitable for single crystal X-ray diffraction was obtained.
