    • While spin-orbit coupling is a generic feature of nanotubes, spin-split spectra such as those obtained in Refs. and shown in Fig. are not universally observed. The origin of this phenomenon, and, in particular, of the narrow Zeeman line of Ref. with g2, is not currently understood. It appears that the discrepancy might be attributed to motional narrowing of the spin-flip transitions due to strong scattering on imperfections of the nanotube (Ref.)
