These 3D surface coefficients are then converted to 2D coefficients by multiplying each by the square root of the number of m -modes that would contribute in 3D, R 2D =± 2+1 Rm, where the sign of the coefficient is chosen randomly for each mode. For the four internal dopant layers, the spectral coefficients are assumed to be one-fifth of the power of the outer ablator surface and the surface perturbations to add successively until the last dopant surface is defined. Note that this prescription applies for modes =1-30. For higher modes, a more complicated prescription is required which progressively decorrelates the outer surface from inner surfaces with increasing mode number.
