This work suggested an overview of the epidemiology and evidence on the relationship between substance use disorders and intentional injuries, since especially alcohol use disorders have been suggested to be an important risk factor for intentional injuries, including suicide.

It suggests that current smoking is strongly associated with suicide although it does not provide an explanatory model.
