    • The 3 and 5 nm Pt seeds can be viewed as spherical and truncated cubic shapes, respectively. The overgrowth of Au was assumed to be preferentially over Pt {111} planes by restricting the growth along diagonal directions (related to the orthogonal lattice) of the cube and hexagon. However, such a restriction is unnecessary for a sphere, since it has no anisotropy for overgrowth. The assumption is based on the rather small lattice mismatch along the 〈111〉 direction between fcc Au and Pt, which is also supported by the fact that epitaxial growth along 〈111〉 is much faster than that along other directions for fcc Pt (34) and the previous observation
