    • In his iconoclastic work Al-Muqaddimah, Ibn Khaldoun elaborates how sanguine ties or tribal solidarity produces a brand of quasi family politics that makes and un-makes power and dynastic rule. this finding by Ibn Khaldoun more than six hundred years ago seems to apply to Arab rule today, specifically in relation to the corrosive role of family and clan politics to 'republicanism'.
