    • Compounds 1-4 were prepared from 2,6-pyridinedicarbonyl dichloride by reaction with the following anilines: p-toluidine (1, 42%), aniline (2, 86%), p-aminobenzonitrile (3, 34%), and p-nitroaniline (4, 52%). Isophthalamides 5 (67%) and 6 (48%) were prepared in an identical fashion using isophthaloyl chloride and the appropriate aniline. Melting points for compounds 1, 5b are identical to literature values. The experimental melting point of 352-354 °C for 4 compares with the literature value of >300 °C. 9a
