16. 4, filtered, and concentrated. The crude product was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel and eluted with 2:1 petroleum ether/acetone to give diethyl o-tolylphosphonate 2a in 90% yield. The general procedures can be used to prepare aryl phophonates shown in Tables 2-5.
