Catherine McGlynn is a Senior Lecturer in Politics in the Department of Behavioural Sciences at the University of Huddersfield. Her research interests include ethnically differentiated citizenship rights, prospects for conflict transformation, and devolution and constitutional change in the UK. Andrew Mycock is a Senior Lecturer in Politics in the Department of Behavioural Sciences at the University of Huddersfield. He is a co-founder of the Academy for the Study of Britishness based at Huddersfield and co-convenor of the Political Studies Association Britishness Specialist Group. In bringing together the contributions to this edition we were fortunate to receive the support of the University of Huddersfield and the Political Studies Association, which allowed us to organise a seminar where the authors presented their work to an academic audience. Professor Paul Ward and Dr Richard Hayton took the role of discussants and the event provided a platform for rigorous debate on what will continue to be a contentious and important topic in the UK's political discourse.
