    • The Casati Educational Law (named after Vittorio Emanuele II's minister Gabrio Casati), established for the first time a comprehensive and centralized system of public education in Piedmont and Lombardy. After unification, the provisions and regulations of the (as it was also known) were made to apply to the whole country. Although it underwent some modifications over the years, the Casati Law remained the basis of the Italian educational system until it was replaced by the Gentile Reform in 1923
