Springer, Berlin, Some of these features are reminiscent of dynamical anomalies observed in soft-core models for network-forming liquids, 32 but their extent and relevance here are quantitatively different in terms of energy and time scales: in colloidal gels at low volume fractions the network formation is responsible for the mechanical stability of the system, which displays a solid-like response with a finite, measurable low frequency shear modulus. That is, this quantitative difference is far from trivial because it produces the qualitatively different rheological and mechanical behaviors that is our central interest for practical uses and technological applications

As a side remark, we would like to comment that the microscopic Newtonian dynamics we use is certainly not the most appropriate to the damped microscopic dynamics of a real system, due to the presence of the solvent. From this point view, the use of Brownian dynamics would be more appropriate. On the other hand, the choice of the Newtonian dynamics has been useful here because it allows for a clearer distinction of the two different relaxation regimes and has therefore simplified our analysis
