    • Among the thiopeptides accessible by synthesis (promothiocin, amythiamicin, GE2270 compounds, thiostrepton, siomycin and micrococcin; ref. 9 and 88), the volume of literature on micrococcin (114 publications in the CAS database as of August 2009) is second only to that on thiostrepton (774 publications). While the properties and mode of action of the latter are similar to those of MP1, its considerably more complex structure renders it less attractive as a point of departure for medicinal chemistry work
