    • In balanced detection, after the signal and LO are combined on a beam splitter, both transmitted and reflected interferograms are collected and subtracted to remove homodyne components. A 180° phase shift is introduced between the reflected and the transmitted interferograms due to the presence of an internal reflection in one arm of the setup.
