    • I borrow the notion of "remaking" from Mark Sedgwick's work on the Rashīd iyya Ahmadiyya and the Idrīsī tradition more generally. Sedgwick argues, quite convincingly, that the development of Sufi orders follows a cyclical rather than a linear pattern, where each generation potentially produces leaders who make and remake their respective Sufi tradition by introducing new ideas and practices, or by adapting the teachings to new local contexts.
