1. From the 1970s onward, feminist anthropology gained momentum and demanded a gender-balanced description of societies and cultures: female life should be described and analyzed on par with male life.
2. Somalis have a long history of immigration to Britain (London included), but my research mainly concerns Somali refugees who arrived more recently as a consequence of the collapse of the Barre regime in 1991 (cf. El-Sohl 1993).
