    • A recent study (Dattelbaum, D. M.; Martin, R. L.; Schoonover, J. R.; Meyer, T. J. J. Phys. Chem. A 2004, 108, 3518) suggests that direct mixing between bpy π* and CO π* Orbitals affects the frequency of the CO stretching modes in the MLCT state. Solvation induced stabilization of bpy π* orbital would reduce the mixing of these orbitals and lead to a blue shift of CO bands.
