Double nucleophilic attack of the hydroxylamine on the pyrimidine ring afforded deprotected 2-aminoimidazole compound, together with the not isolated 3-(hydroxyamino)acrylaldehyde oxime as the by-product. The opening of the dihydropyridine ring was the consequence of heating the reaction mixture.
