    • See EPAPS supplementary material at E-APPLAB-95-030932 for the following. (1) (a) Magnetization curves at parallel and perpendicular orientation of the field for the Co:Au sample measured at 2 K. The small difference in coercive field can be attributed to slight shape distortions or stress in the particles due to the deposition process (Ref.). (b) Anhysteretic interpolations of the two curves show the identical approach to saturation. (2) ZFC/FC magnetization curves and triple fits for the Co:Au and the Co:C samples. The derived magnetic size diameter distribution is shifted to smaller values for the sample in amorphous carbon, reflecting the magnetically dead interface layer.
