For many years dialogue processes and problem solving workshops have been conducted among the intellectuals, journalists, religious leaders, politicians and young people that experience Palestine-Israeli Conflict, Balkan Conflicts, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and Tajikistan conflicts. In many cases these workshops and dialogue processes had not brought concrete outcomes yet created a common space and opened new channels for better communication and understanding.

The September 11 2001 attacks and the Madrid and London bombings in particular increased Islamophobia, xenophobia and racism in many western societies. Institutions such as the UK-based Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism (FAIR) and the Vienna-based European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC), try to monitor and combat Islamophobia. Nonetheless, Islamophobic discourse has continued to spread very quickly due to the irresponsible and discriminatory speeches of some politicians and religious elite in the US and Europe.
