That source estimates the number of users of academic and public depository libraries at 167, 000 for a typical week (defined as a choice of selected weeks in the fall). The research design does not permit conversion of a number into a monthly estimate. Therefore, the calculation that yielded 712, 000 has never been explained. Furthermore, the data were compiled in 1989, before the introduction of e-government.
